Sacred Geometry
Philosophy is written in this grand book – I mean the universe – which stands continually open to our gaze, but it cannot be understood unless one first learns
to comprehend the language and interpret the characters in which it is written.
It is written in the language of mathematics, and its characters are triangles, circles and other geometric figures, without which it is humanly impossible to understand
a word of it; without these, one is wandering about in a dark labyrinth.
Galileo 1611
Matter and spirit
Geometry orders the fabric of our universe. This order is the logical, analytical measurement of geometric fact; what remains is the more profound question, why? What other purpose does geometry have? What does it all mean?
In a time when science, faith, philosophy, mysticism and art all went hand in hand,
it was recognised and believed that matter and spirit are inseparable parts of the
same whole. Around the globe geomancers were the people who used numbers, geometric shapes and language seamlessly as part of their profession, for example
in designing temples. Geomancers knew that the same geometric rules and
structures evident around us apply as much to our physical selves as to our spiritual aspect, having originated from the same source. The profoundness of this is what made geometry sacred. This select group of people were well ‘educated’ and skilled
in their profession. They were mathematicians, fluent philosophers and artists. Their knowledge was restricted to the initiated, communicated using secret symbols and conveyed as an oral tradition of learning. Next Page ...
